I remember meeting him at an SG1 convention a few years back, and he was such a kind man. Also a very talented artist creating landscape pictures using a ink dot method. He loved meeting his fans and was happy to chat and pose for photos. On stage his charisma shone through and he captivated his audience. this is his website for his artwork -http://www.donsdavisart.com/
he will be missed. Rest in Peace kind sir.

Is anyone else who has hayfever/allergies/Rhinitis finding this month absolute hell?
Ive been taking Benedryl for a few years now and its been as good as Triludan Forte used to be, but this month its done nothing. Now, yeah i could have become immune to its effects ( its happened before with Zirtek) but its so sudden. Now Im on a brand new to the market antihistamine,Mizolastine 10mg, brand name Mizollen that so far is taking the edge off the worst of the symptoms but isn't anywhere near as good as how Benedryl used to be with me.(edit - seems to be helping now as long as i take half at night, half in the morning and half if needed mid way through day)
The worst symptoms ive had this month as incessant itchy back of mouth/inner ear, and at one point the feeling that i had the aches that you get when you get the flu ( or in people with FMS, a cold) aswell as itchy eyes and blocked nose.
Chris went out to get me some Zirtek to try again and said it was the only antihistime packet left on the shelves in the pharmacy so obviously its bad at the moment. I guess it must be down to the bad weather weve had till now and all the pollen has been delayed coming out till now.

3:54 pm - im still here..honest
|
im so crap at this updating arnt i...but then as i said to Barbarella madcatlady that anyone who suffers from our conditions tend to feel really busy all the time, but its actually a case of when you feel well enough to do stuff your catching up on all the stuff you couldnt do when you felt like crap hehe
anyway, London Expo was fecking awesome! meeting Edward James Elmos, Aaron again, A Juliani and Rekha from BSG was briliant especially Eddie who was the nicest guy you could meet, so gracious and happy to meet and chat to fans. Great that this was his first event too and he seemed very happy and not overwhelmed.
anyway this is my full report that i posted on a BSG forum ( report on expo )
and here are the photos of the event -mainly of the 'ukfrakers'
http://ukfrakers.com/gallery/thumbnails.php?album=4 but had to share this one!!!!

as you can see by my report...sunday was a nogo.. such bad IBS enhanced by Fibro..lovely. Only fully recovered by thursday as i didnt have any energy till then.
Other than that went to see Indiana Jones and the crystal Skull, and i enjoyed it. Its not as amazing as the first3, but i didnt feel i would have wasted the price of a ticket. I particually loved the gopher joke and the little injokes through the film and thought it was a nice rounding off to indys story. No where near as good a film as Ironman though...that totally rocks.
Lastly in costuming - went to shepherds bush on sat with Chris to see if we could find some fabrics for future costumes and after much staring at the many shades of navy blue wools we found the perfect fabric for BSG duty blue uniforms, aswell as great suedette for the shoulders of the costume. I also found what i think is as good as im gonna get red/gold fabric for my Hathor costume. That place is fantastic for fabrics...and so much cheaper than central london obviously.

handy fact to know about change in tenancy laws concerning deposits - Tenancy deposit law was introduced on 6th April 2007 and provides protection for tenants by preventing landlords and letting agents from unfairly withholding a deposit. The scheme protects all Assured Shorthold Tenancies in England and Wales (covering most tenancies since 1997)

11:37 pm - Pepper update
|
as people have asked, here is the update on my boy pepper ( the little 19 yr old tuxedo cat ) well the vet had a look and there wasnt anything there....BUT he did notice that the larynx flap that separates the throat from the osophogous.(sp?)
anyway theres 2 flaps to the larynx and one flap is lazy..he might have partial paralysis of that side of it and hence the wretching
hes been given antibiotics and will have a check up friday...but right now hes home, has eaten ok..and seems to be ok, tho his breathing can be noisy and he does wretch now and then.
It could be the begining of the end for my boy, hes lasted a long time, carried on past a tumourous lump in his mouth..and now this...so fingers crossed hes ok for a bit longer.
thanks for all the positive thoughts and comments, im sure it helped.

1:26 am - keep your paws crossed for Pepper
|
my old boy is probably going to have a general anethetic wednesday morn to try and remove what ever is caausing him to wretch all the time. The reason im worried, is pepper is anold cat , 19 years and doesnt have the best heart, so a GA is dangerous for him, but its the only way to get at whats causing the problem
please say a prayer, give blessing to Bast or just keep your fingers crossed he gets through it ok.

9:42 pm - new costume!!
|
After alot of group research and ordering myself and 4 others have got together a new series BSG Viper Pilot costume. Finding the accurate bits and bobs was difficult. The only thing we couldnt get hold of without taking out a second mortage was the actual suit fabric. The saga of this fabric is the stuff of nightmares, so we decided to do the next best thing. Get a great guy in the states to heavily modify a ebay special flightsuit to make it accurate and he did a great job! Thanks Eggroll! one thing i got to still mod of this is the flak-waistcoat..because o had to shorten the bodylength of the suit the waistcoat is slightly too long. Easy mod to do, but you can see it buckling slightly in the below photos.
So to present - Major Sakara, of the UK Frakers! callsign - Callisto

8:34 pm - visit to Chessington Zoo
|
My friend Iona whose a gorilla keeper at Chessignton had found a new job at London Zoo, and is soon to head over there so she invited myself and Chris for a last visit to see the animals. How lucky are we????? well we got up close with Tigers..about half a metre away with only the cage between us. SO awesome to see the adult male and female so close...actually hear and feel their breath. Seeing the size of the male up close was incredible. It was cute hearing their version of a purr, which is sort of a snuffle noise.Plus hehe we got to see some tiger porn! yep they had a quickie in front of us! though the female wasn't really up for it since shed only given birth to cubs a few weeks back. Speaking of the cubs they were so cute, but hidden in their den, so they had a camera to check on them. The adult female is funny. She's crossed eyed!how can you look upon a adult tiger with fear when its staring at you cross eyed with its tongue poking out! When she yawns and you see her teeth! Its funny how even in these huge cats , you see your family kitty in them...their mannerisms..facial movements etc.
We got to see Iona's gorilla's again and are so much fun to watch as always. One of the females looked like she was suffering from a hangover as she had her hands on her head most of the time!
finally saw the leopard, which normally does what it does best and hides!Funny moment with her was when the keeper strung up a meat joint up high on a branch and the leopard went in for 'the kill'...she grabbed the joint and then proceeded to fall off the branch swinging on the joint by her mouth! She hung on for a few minutes before given up, having a wash and trying again!
the two Asiatic lions were doing their fav thing - lying around.....alot. on different sides.....lol
The sealions were amusing themselves...chasing each other around like missiles and using the old dad as a , well it looked like a 'safe' place...sort of cant touch me here type game. then they got hold of a stick and started throwing that around!
The rhea decided that he had to follow me where ever i walked..got a classic photo of that!
the monkeys as usual were funny...a spider monkey had a hemp bag that it found the best thing ever and proceeded to throw it around and wear on its head.
The Andean condor showed why its known for having the largest wingspan of any bird...by spreading its wings...WOW.
BUT and i save the best for last - we got to handle a baby Biterong ( bear-cat_ as the keeper was hand rearing it due to the adult parents not knowing how to rear its young ( first time parents - mum actually killed 2 of its young) Due to the creatures rarity theyd decided to tame the biterong so it can be handled and bred easierly...its a typical method in many zoos. This creature is truly the most adorable thing youl ever see....think a cross between a ..yes and cat and bear, but mix in red panda and mongoose and youve got it. Oh but also think fraggle from fraggles rock and your spot on!it has the cutest tufts on its ears and huge whiskers and bright orange eyes. it makes the funniest noises of snuffles and almost purr sounds.the little thing also decided it loved my fingers and tried to eat everyone! When im a millionaire...im getting one! Oh and they smell like salted popcorn! no really that was the consensus of everyone!
here are my photos! http://s152.photobucket.com/albums/s187/khljphotos/chessington%20april08/

7:45 pm - for the lj 'strike' thats been on today - taken from padawansguide with thanks.
|
This strike is starting to bring out complaints and worries about antisemitism as the russians who now own LJ are jewish and theres lots of antisemitism going on in russia.....hmmmm more to this than simply meets the eye. see more info below which goes into depth more on the aspects of this -
http://cleolinda.livejournal.com/587865.html
More specifically: http://cleolinda.livejournal.com/587865.html?thread=28733273#t28733273
There's also somewhat of a clash of business practices between the old school Soviet way of doing things, and the more capitalistic way. Cleo quotes cormallen, which is worth reading:
Let me try to explain what I mean by that. Customer service in the Soviet Union can be summarized in the following statements (both translations of sayings that are very familiar and understandable to many Russians I know; I am aware that I cannot speak for an entire country or an entire political and economic era): "There are many of you [customers], but only one of me [salesperson]" and "Keep bitching, and I won't serve you at all". Unfortunately, you couldn't just take your money to a competing shop - there wasn't one (I am aware I am simplifying, but I don't want to wax loquacious).
It's not about people saying they will leave SUP like they said they would leave SixApart. It's about a business model not built on "we exist to serve the customer", not built on "the customer is the reason we are in business", not built on "hey, the customers are the guys who give us money, how about that". It's that cultural memory of "you don't like what I have to offer? Too bad, I am your only choice for goods and services" that is steering this ship. Learn about capitalism the hard way? Freedom to choose what to spend money on? Keep bitching. See if I serve you. (cormallen, via biomekanic)
More on that here: http://cleolinda.livejournal.com/588120.html
And also, good thoughts on how to accomplish what LJ users want, from Cleo:
I don't quite know the best way to go about this, but to me, the optimal solution would be to keep talking, to keep a dialogue going, in which we explain that LJ is not the only game in town--but it's the game we love, and we don't want to leave. We want this to be a win-win situation for everyone, where LJ prospers and we stay and SUP's (or 6A's, or whoever happens to be running the show at any given time) actions are introduced and explained to us in the full light of day. It's not even that the customer has to be right all the time; I do think that, apart from the secretive manner in which Basic accounts were discontinued, ads probably are necessary for LJ's growth (who pays for additional servers?), and we're going to need to get some good adblockers and move on with life. It's really the customer service/transparency issue and the shady, secretive treatment of fandom we're concerned with now. And it seems to me like the only way to accomplish this is to adopt a "squeaky wheel gets the grease" approach--I suspect they'll notice that more than a one-day boycott. But I think we're also going to have to sit down and figure out what it is, exactly, tangibly, that we want. Because I'm trying to think what to put on that postcard tomorrow, and I'm not sure what to say. They apologized. They retreated on the disappearing-interests issue. What's left to say? "Try not to be asshats in the future?" "Find a better spokesperson"? "Restore Basic accounts as an option," I guess, but I think of that more as a better way to attract new users for them than something that affects current Basic users as long as they're grandfathered in as promised. And maybe that's the way it needs to be phrased to SUP.

7:41 pm - My Dad - update for those who asked
|
My dad came out of hospital on Wednesday....and as those of you who know him, trying to get a clear answer out of him is not easy at best..BUT the docs tested his heart and also did a brain scan, and told him they think he'd had a mild heart attack, but let me ask you this.. - symptoms of convulsing, slight vomiting, losing conciousness and no memory of event, plus no prior symptoms leading to losing conciousness...does that sound like a heart attack?
or epilepsy?
anyway hes ok now, waiting to see his GP and speak to him.

Many of you whove met my dad know how laid back he is.....and that he also suffers from Diabetes. Some of you know that he had passed out a few months back and it was put down to sugar levels dropping.Well..he went and did it again. This time though his sugar levels are ok...so this time theyre keeping him in over the weekend to monitor his heart as they think it may have something to do with that...though they cant be sure as they cant figure out the memory loss part which he has.
Hes ok...went to see him tonight as hes his usual laid back self lol, but know some of you might want to know as you often ask how he is.
Hopefully hel be back home on Monday.

Anyone else seen the advert for Cyprus holidays?
their tagline " The year round Island"
what the feck does that mean?..are all other islands migrating to the mainland after the summer is over? of course its a year round island...its an island, it cant be anything else!!!!!
what a stupid statement!!!!!
in other adverts...a couple of good ones -
the Polo car advert -Whilst a dog is in the car he's singing away loudly, but outside the car he's mumbling to himself as hes only confidant in the car.
another advert, i think for insurance?..has two cats purring at each other with subtitles as to what they're actually saying to each other, tbased on the excellent youtube vid of 2 cats chirping at each other and another vid where someone has dubbed over their chirps with voices. very funny!

7:08 pm - auction for Gorillas...
|
popping this on here for a friend who is a gorilla keeper at Chesignton, There raising funds for gorilla charity CWAF (Cameroon Wildlife Aid Fund).
ill let her explain and at the bottom is their first auction-
'Just to let you all know I've now set up the ebay account to auction some items for gorilla charity CWAF (Cameroon Wildlife Aid Fund). after the success of Chessington's 'Gorilla Day' last September we've been talking about continuing the good work with some ebay auctions for some time
- we've got some items which can raise much more cash & greater awareness by auctioning them this way - starting with some prints of our very own beautiful Mjukuu, photographed by Bollo from the Mighty Boosh & signed by him (very exclusive & collectible - the only prints available!), & some prints of the specially commissioned painting of 'Jersey Kumba' (the Chessington group's previous silverback) which hangs in Burnt Stub mansion - a piece of Chessington history, painted by the now very successful wildlife artist Willem S deBeer.
Please feel free to forward the link anywhere else that you think might help spread the word & raise a few bids - any help in directing a bit more traffic to the auction would be greatly appreciated!
The first item is now up, here's the link: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/signed-Gorilla-portrait-by-Bollo_W0QQitemZ260215464451
others will follow shortly.
For those not familiar with CWAF, please also take a moment to visit their website to learn more about the gorilla charity we support: http://www.cwaf.org/
Thanks,
Iona.'

7:15 pm - randomness
|
Health - fucked basically i think..has been for a while. The meds i was on has messed around with me too much. Lyrica works for some and im really glad, but not for me. Upped dosage was rubbish, wrecked me - fatigue, no sexdrive, weightgain and to be honest not much difference in pain management. when i felt i had to drop back down the pain increased and now i got to try and get back what ive lost now. So im coming off it. Bascially because i found out Lyrica really effects stomach and gut issues like IBS, of which strangely enough my symptoms have gotten worse since i went on it, but not really noticed it, since i get ups and downs, but yeah ive had to take more ibs meds cos of it. SO onto another one perhaps.Seeing my doc this week. Ive also been on a rollercoaster of ups and downs emotionally recently, with some serious downs...in one right now, wish i could just scream as i feel so frustrated and no idea why!
Work - Its over. as of tomorrow no more Darksidecostumes as a business. i couldnt keep up with it all and the stress was killing me so no more! Still going to make for myself...when i feel motivated to do so...and ive got a couple of things to finish for some people but then that it for others really. Now ive got to hope and pray i can get incapacity benefit now...as i really cant go into a job straight away..im just not well enough right now, ive got nothing left.
in better news, my relationship with Chris is stronger than ever, i do love him to bits and he supports me in everyway which is so good. My dad who if youve met him know hes very laid back, is sometimes hard to read but when it comes down to it is so supportive. I had some real financial problems recently and he bailed me out...i didnt ask for it..i certainly didnt want to take it but he insisted, im glad i have this support as i really dont know what i would have done without them.
in a slightly random note ive applied to go onto the show Are you Smarter than a 10 year old. Ive loved the show since it first aired and think its one show i may have some chance on lol...so fingers crossed. I got to the initial interview and it went well so im hoping i got accepted as any money won would be very helpful.

3:22 pm - HOLY SHIT! camden on fire!
|
i so didnt know about this..all the papers wrote it as "amy Winhouse fav pub on fire" and i didnt give a toss about that, but the actual story was that one of the markets of camden was on fire and the pub was nearby! http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/7237455.stm
is it just me or does anyone else think that this is just a ploy to redevelop that area. burn down area, buy land at cheap price, turn into what you wanted before without any interferance.
in better news Afflecks Palace in Manchester, Mancs version of camden is being saved. Red or Dead's creator is buying it aslong with some other designers and developing it to be better but still for new and alternative designers to showcase theyre work.
